New centre of excellence for advanced manufacturing systems
Lancaster University is joining forces with TWI, a world leader in manufacturing research, to create the “Joining 4.0 Innovation Centre”.
The centre will bring expertise, facilities and research together to support the potential Northern Powerhouse Advanced Manufacturing Innovation Corridor, identified in a recent Science Innovation Audit jointly delivered by the university.
The centre, which will be owned by Lancaster University and will operate from TWI’s world-class facilities in Cambridge, will deliver significant benefits to the North, including linking to TWI’s facilities in Sheffield and Lancaster University’s world class engineering department and facilities on the Lancaster campus.
The partnership will enable the fast transfer of research breakthroughs to TWI’s established network of 700 industrial members to significantly impact the UK economy, and Lancaster University’s strong ties with businesses in the North will ensure the centre’s breakthroughs deliver benefits to northern manufacturing companies.
