An update from the second NPH partner meeting
With nearly 90 new official partners pledging their support for the Government’s official Northern Powerhouse Programme, we were pleased to see so many of you in Manchester for the second Northern Powerhouse partner meeting.
The conference, which took place on 30 March 2017 was hosted by our partners, Vodafone in their Wythenshawe offices. The event bought together new and established partners each of who provided a strong voice to their priorities for this Government initiative.
We were joined by Minister for the Northern Powerhouse, Andrew Percy, and for the first time since her appointment as Commercial Secretary to the Treasury, Baroness Neville-Rolfe. This provided an opportunity for the discussion to focus on next steps and for partners to hear directly from the senior officials about their Northern Powerhouse priorities.
The discussions highlighted a range of issues and ideas, including the importance of connectivity – particularly through improved digital infrastructure, skills, training, international trade and quality of life. We also heard the call for greater links between business and education across the whole of the North, a point we have heard reiterated at recent roundtable sessions held with Minister in the past few weeks.
The day also provided a platform for partners to showcase their own work and share how their expertise is helping to shape the future priorities in building the Northern Powerhouse.
We would like to thank Rob Mukherjee – Vodafone, David McCall – Hyper Island and Ray Thompson – Siemens who shared how their work on connectivity, talent development and business transformation in the Northern Powerhouse is helping to deliver tangible results for businesses and people living and working in the region.
In another first for the network, we heard from the Northern Powerhouse Tech Trade Mission to San Francisco. The footage from their first 24hrs was beamed over that morning, giving partners a flavour of the opportunities awaiting colleagues in Silicon Valley. A big thank you to Jamil Khalil, Founder and CEO of Wakelet for making this possible – you can see more about this mission at the dedicated #npmission feed Jamil and his team have put together.
Thank you for taking the time out of your busy schedules to join us at the second official Northern Powerhouse partner meeting and your ongoing support. Thanks also to our generous host, Vodafone and the team in Wythenshawe for making the day a great success.
Work is underway to build on the outputs and follow up meetings will be held in due course.
