Today marks the start of the 2017 Manchester International Festival (MIF). Taking place every two years, the festival runs from 29 June to 16 July and brings together artists to create dynamic, innovative and forward-thinking work at venues across Greater Manchester.

Demonstrating the vibrant cultural offering of the Northern Powerhouse, MIF launched in 2007 as an artist-led festival presenting new works from across the spectrum of performing arts, visual arts and popular culture. Artists including Björk, Steve McQueen, Robert Wilson, Wayne McGregor, Damon Albarn, Maxine Peake, The xx, Zaha Hadid Architects, Abida Parveen, Punchdrunk, Elbow and Marina Abramović have all had work exhibited.
