Lake District awarded UNESCO status

The Lake District National Park has been awarded the coveted UNESCO World Heritage status, cementing its reputation globally.

Delegates at the UNESCO conference in Krakow, Poland, supported the motion, praising the Lake District’s significant natural beauty, innovative conservation and agricultural practices, and tourism management schemes.

The Lake District is the most visited national park in England – attracting more than 18 million visitors per year, supporting more than 18,000 jobs.
