Gateshead Council, alongside its partners Ask Real Estate, PATRIZIA UK and SMG Europe, has announced this week plans for a £200 million 12,500-seat entertainment arena, conference and exhibition centre and cultural leisure hub opposite the Gateshead Millennium Bridge.

The project hopes to attract 300,000 extra visitors per year, and is projected to support over 1,140 jobs – boosting the regional economy by £29.5 million annually.

Martin Gannon, leader of Gateshead Council, said of the development that “Not only will they bring new life to the area but they will bring new jobs and significantly boost the local and regional economy.

“An arena and conference and exhibition facility will also play an important role in complementing and strengthening demand for national and international conferences, exhibitions and events […] as well as acting as a catalyst for wider investment across Gateshead and further stimulating economic growth.”
