In November 2017, the Business Secretary, Greg Clark, announced his vision for a modern Industrial Strategy that will ensure the UK is building the type of economy that gives businesses across the Northern Powerhouse, and the whole of the UK, a global competitive edge.
The new strategy, building on the work of the Northern Powerhouse strategy, represents an extensive partnership with academia and industry, including input from many firms from across the Northern Powerhouse area, to make sense of issues that matter to the people and businesses of the UK.
A world-leading reputation in the automotive sector, chemical innovation, life sciences, research and innovation and the creative industries are some of the great strengths of the North. Through the Industrial Strategy and investment in the Northern Powerhouse, Government will build on these great local strengths and create new opportunities.
Through this new, modern industrial Strategy, we are boosting the skills of our young people and investing in lifelong learning, so no matter your age you will get the support you need to reach your potential.
The North is a vital part of the UK economy and this strategy, through investment in infrastructure, 5G technology, transport, skills and an uplift in innovation spending, will provide certainty for all British businesses, so they can seize the many new opportunities as we leave the EU.
